The acoustic guitar and lead vocal was recorded somewhere in Yelm, Washington in 2001 using Protools. Additional vocals and keyboard parts were recorded at my studio in Olympia, Washington in 2018 with Logic ProX.

WHERE DID THE LOVE GO?

Alyssa laid down her head in Mexico;
in the house her husband bought her "bout a year ago.
She raised up a hand to turn out the light.
She started to cry as she closed her eyes.

You see, life ain't been too good for her
back at home.
With a troubled marriage and a crazy daughter
she couldn't keep at home.

No matter how hard she tried,
she couldn't keep the family together.
She watched the years pass by
and severe the bonds between them

cryin' where did the love go in here?
Where does the love go from here?

Her husband ran off to Bali a few months ago.
In search of fortune, in search of freedom, in search of his soul.
In search of anything to take his mind off his failure as a father,
but all that he found was that you can't take back the years.

So he went back home
and he opened a store off of Miracle Mile.
And there he spends his days
waiting on passers by.

Selling incense and candles,
and stone statues of Shiva.
Selling paper backs that promise
to heal the rifts between us

Alyssa awoke to the sound of her telephone;
to the sound of a voice so familiar it could have been her own.
Wiping the sleep from her eyes, she searched for something to say.
"My god it's been a while is everything Ok?"

Nothing much ever changes here her husband said.
Days pass by and the nights are spent in my empty bed.
Sometimes I still hear your voice rising up over the silence,
but when I turn on the lights I find myself still alone
